Zane Grey Cabin Free Day

Celebrate Zane Grey’s birthday by touring the replica Cabin at the Rim Country Museum

Zane Grey wrote many novels based in Arizona, and he visited Rim Country annually starting in 1918.  He had a hunting cabin built about 20 miles east of Payson.  This cabin was lost in the Dude Fire in 1990, but a foundation in Payson raised funds and built a replica of the original.  Admission to tour the cabin is free on Saturday, January 25th from 10:00am-4:00pm, in honor of Zane Grey’s birthday on Jan 31st.

"Arizona's Vanishing Trading Posts"

The stories of trading posts in the Southwest are a unique snapshot of life almost one hundred years ago. In the early 1900’s, trading posts in the Four Corners flourished. There were over one hundred trading posts on the plateau, but today only five remain. Why did they vanish? The challenges and unexpected gifts of cross-cultural exchange are factors, as well as the social and economic changes on the reservation and across the country.
